On behalf of the rest of the MusicXclusives team, I want to announce a Happy Birthday in remembrance of Aaliyah Dana Haughton‘s legacy. Music was her life, and life for her was just as much her music. Her last happy moment on Earth existed while making a music video for “Rock The Boat,” from her last full-length studio album, her self-titled (and best album), Aaliyah: an album that can still be played today and sound current.
In addition to spearheading Timbaland and Missy Elliott into the mainstream music scene, Baby Girl influenced a plethora of artists (such as Noah “40” Shebib, Cassie, Ciara, Destiny’s Child, et cetera). Check out this vdieo of Sevyn Streeter covering Aaliyah’s “Come Over.”
Aaliyah was one of the most gracious, classy and elegant popular artists of all time, and her music was ahead of its time. She never had an industry beef, nor ever had a reason to. All of her peers had lovely things to say about Aaliyah aka Baby Girl. Check out the beautiful things Beyoncé, Ginuwine, Drake and others said about her below:
Though her life ended tragically, I thank her and her family for the life she lived on Earth, and I’m glad to have lived in an era of music where she was able to share her gift. Happy Birthday, Aaliyah!
