B Slade is coming to slayyyy. Deep Purple was released on May 16th, and the album is saturated with attitude, love, arrogance, and utterly infectious instrumentation. The album opens with a short sermon to catch your attention, by the name of “Mama Jaila’s Intro“. Before you know it, you’re swept into storm of drums and claps on the dance track “Phony Pony“. “Twerk” is much the same, and actually reminds me of Janet’s “Miss You Much“. I do believe this track has alot of potential for radio, and the video could be sick! The title track, “Deep Purple“, has a little Janet flow too. It’s hard to deny that he was influenced by Damita Jo….
“Sonshine” is slightly more tame, and it features Olana and Enxo. It’s hard not to get on the floor for the this one. “2 Get 2“, the Hookah remix, adds a chill element to the album’s flow. “I Wish” & “Never Love This Way” both have more of a House sound. Perfect for the overseas crowd. “Serial Monogamist” sounds like something I heard before, but wayyyyy back in the day. I can definitely see him performing this song on one of Prince‘s tours. “Vibrations” is undoubtedly one of my favorite tracks, and puts me in the mind of Zapp. ”Out Of My Mind” is a slow & sensual ballad, where B Slade sings about his feelings for an interest with his signature soft tenor. “Lo Siento” keeps the smooth vibe goin, but B Slade takes off vocally and reminds you of his Gospel roots. Amen…
There is another song that I can see doing well on the charts, and that song is “Could It Be You“. It’s soft enough to capture your attention, but well delivered. A lovely ballad. The “Outrolude” closes out this album with a piano serenade. No words necessary. Just know that he out-sings half of the current R&B top acts in this 1:15 track. Overall, Deep Purple is a great mixture of style, nostalgia, and undeniable emotion. If you love R&B, you owe it to yourself to hear this album, at least once. B Slade has slayed!
