@Lot80 – Q&A [Interview] « MusicXclusives.com | "We Play It First"
Sep 2011 02

Day 5: Last night we caught up with the ladies of Lot80 to get the dish on what they’ve been up to. Check out what they had to say below:

1. Where are you from?
Yanick (songstress) is from Miami, FL and Miche (rapper) is from Wilmington, DE.

2. What is a food that best describes your music? Why?
Our music would be lasagna. And I say that because of the layers. We want to create music that not only makes you dance, but makes you think, makes you cry – music that connects w/ us all.

3. When did you have that moment that you realized, this can pop off for real?!
I don’t think we’ve had that moment just yet, to be honest. The industry seems to be in a really weird place as far as what is embraced and what isn’t. What’s in today may be out tomorrow.

4. When and how did you link with Josh to be your PR?
Wow. Believe it or not we met Josh through twitter. He brushed us off for a little bit but when we finally met up, we talked, he heard the music, and we signed w/ him that same night.

5. Did you grow up with professional musical training?
Neither of us have professional training. Yanick’s family were like the Haitian version of Selena and her family. They all played instruments and she sang. I think family sometimes can be the best trainers – they’ll critique you whether you want them to or not.

6. For those that don’t know, what should music fans know about you two? (songwriters/singers/etc)
People should know that Yanick is the singer in the group and Miche is the rapper, and yes we both are songwriters. People usually guess the opposite.

7. Give us three lines from your favorite songs from the EP.
The beginning of Miche’s verse on “Late Bloomer”- “looking at me now/ you prolly couldn’t tell/ you prolly couldn’t count all the times I have failed/ the tears I have cried/ the battles I had to fight/ the criticism endured/ intimidated by light/ now I shine.

8. Tell us about your name? Is LOT80 based on a place?
LOT80 stands for Ladies of the 80′s. We fell in love with the whole 80′s era… what it meant for women and also the fearlessness that women like MC Lyte, Madonna, Salt N Pepa, and Queen Latifah brought to the industry.

9. What would you say you DON’T Sound Like musically?
When we create music we don’t go in with the mindset that we have to make a club banger or a radio hit. Our goal is to focus on the message in the music. We want to make music that can be played anywhere at anytime.

10. Share with our readers your B.A.D movement and how you developed that? Meaning?
We created a set of workshops to help motivate young girls to pursue their dreams. B.A.D stands for Believing, Achieving, Dreaming and we bring these workshops in the schools, boys and girls club, YMCAs etc…With B.A.D. we step back from the microphone a bit and we’re face to face with these girls.
